Master’s Program: English Language Teaching

The Master’s Program English Language Teaching (ELT) is designed to provide English language graduates and educators with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in contemporary language teaching. The program equips future teachers with the competencies necessary to meet the evolving demands of education in Kosovo and the wider region.

Aligned with national educational priorities and European standards (NQF Level 7 / EQF Level 7), this one-year (60 ECTS) program supports the mission of the university to develop qualified, innovative professionals who can positively impact the education system. It combines academic rigor with real-world application through integrated theory, pedagogy, research, and practicum components.

Program Mission and Objectives

The ELT program aims to:

Enhance professional competencies in teaching English using current methodologies, strategies, and digital tools.
Prepare graduates to teach English at all educational levels, from primary schools to universities.
Develop students’ ability to design curricula, apply formative and summative assessments, and foster inclusive learning environments.
Encourage research in the field of language education, with a focus on practical and policy-relevant outcomes.

Why This Program?

This program addresses several pressing needs in Kosovo’s education sector:

A shortage of qualified English language teachers at all levels of pre-university education.
The absence of similar graduate-level programs in the country.

Target Candidates

The program is open to candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree (240 ECTS) in English Language and Literature from accredited institutions, either within the Faculty of Education or the Faculty of Philology, in Kosovo or abroad.

Applicants who completed their studies abroad must first go through the nostrification (recognition) process at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MEST) of Kosovo before applying.

Curriculum and Structure

The program consists of two semesters, combining:

Advanced coursework in teaching methodology, linguistics, curriculum design, and educational technology.
A practical teaching component (practicum) in schools, supported by partnerships with municipal education directorates.
A research component that fosters critical inquiry and academic writing.

Practical Learning

The practicum offers hands-on experience in real classroom settings, where students:

Observe and participate in lessons across primary and secondary schools.
Plan, deliver, and reflect on their teaching practices.
Apply ICT tools and promote inclusive education.
Keep a reflective teaching diary and receive feedback from mentors and supervisors.

This component bridges theory and practice, ensuring that students graduate as confident, reflective, and capable professionals.
